Yiddish Typer: A Convenient Extension for Typing in Yiddish
Yiddish Typer is a Chrome extension developed by יאַנקל־פּרץ. This free program allows users to type in Yiddish without the need for any additional software or keyboard installations. With Yiddish Typer, users can simply type Yiddish phonetically, and the correct letters will appear.
The extension is designed to convert YIVO transcription into the correct Yiddish characters. For example, typing 'sh' will produce a ש, and 'ay' will produce ײַ. The program also automatically generates the correct forms for shtumer-alef and the final forms of khof, mem, and other letters. Additionally, users have the option to choose an alternative orthography used by the Algemeiner Zhurnal.
Yiddish Typer is inspired by the work of Noyekh Miller, Shoshke-Rayzl Yuni, and Refoyel Finkl. The functionality of the extension is closely modeled after the "Yiddish Pasekh" keyboard designed by Gyula "Ziggy" Zsigri for use with the software utility "Keyman."
If you encounter any bugs or have suggestions for new features, the developer encourages you to use the support options on the extension page.
